Free Medication for People Living in The Irish Republic Suffering From Myasthenia Gravis
There is some confusion whether Myasthenics are entitled to free medication. This arises because historically the condition has been identified under muscular dystropies rather than under its own name of Myasthenia Gravis.
If you have been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis you should:-
1. Contact the HSE office covering the area where you live and request a 'Long Term Illness Form'.
2. Fill out the form as requested and circle "Muscular Dystropies". Do NOT mention Myasthenia Gravis.
3. Take the form to your GP and ask him/her to sign it. If the Doctor is reluctant you should inform him/her that Myasthenia Gravis is a muscular dystrophy. If there is any doubt please see www.mdi.ie
